Putting the Garden to Bed for Winter

What We're up to in the Garden

    Planting garlic

Lulu and Cathy just planted garlic in their gardens. Lulu should have enough to ward off Dracula next Halloween!

Covering perennial beds with straw, mulch or leaves

After the first frost, it's a good idea to cover your perennial beds with straw, mulch or leaves to protect roots.

Leaving healthy, faded perennials and seedbeds in place

Provides shelter and food for birds and it's less work for you. A win-win!

    Emptying terra-cotta pots

Empty and clean terra-cotta pots and store them away so they don't crack or flake during the winter.

    Cleaning and oiling garden tools

Clean and oil your garden tools before storing them away for the winter.
